Abstract

The onion (Allium cepa L.) is among the most important vegetables in our country. The Central Western Region, especially the Quíbor Valley, contributes a significant volume of national demand. Semi-arid areas have competitive advantages with respect to other regions of the country, such as high solar incidence, wide temperature range between day and night, little cloud cover, among others, conditions that mean that this crop can be planted throughout the year. time of year. The Libertad variety onion originated from 7 local collections of bulbs at the level of farmers' farms and from selected onion lines in the Quibor research field of the INIA.
