Use of Azolla-Anabaena in agriculture as fertilizer
Abstract
The Azolla-Anabaena complex is a symbiotic association between a fern (Azolla; Photo 1) and a bacteria (Anabaena; Figure 1), capable of fixing atmospheric nitrogen that can be used by the plants around it. This is an alternative to replace traditional nitrogen sources in crops with a flood planting system, such as rice. Hence the importance for the producer to know the environmental conditions that affect its growth and method of cultivating it.
