Experience of participatory genetic improvement for the selection of bean cultivars in the state of Carabobo
Abstract
In Venezuela, the bean, Phaseolus vulgaris L., mainly the black one, represents the grain legume with the highest consumption, being a basic element of the "criollo pavilion", a typical national dish. It is widely distributed in all regions of the country, its production is directed, to a large extent, by small and medium farmers, in peasant production areas of less than five hectares, with agroecological limitations, basically family labor and little use of resources. external, being its destination self-consumption and local markets.
