I. General information
Agronomía Tropical is a periodic magazine edited by the Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones Agricolas (INIA) in Venezuela. Its objective is to promote and maintain the exchange of information among researchers, through the dissemination of the results of research and innovation related to the various areas of agronomy, with special attention to tropical and subtropical regions.
The Journal publishes five categories of contributions: original research articles, technical notes, review articles, special papers, and letters to the editor.
Periodicity: Annual continuous volume. It opens in January of each year and closes in November of each year.
Scope of the topic: Basic and applied research in crop agroecosystems related to agricultural development.

II. Policies
II.1. From the Editorial Committee. The Editorial Committee of the Journal is made up of representatives of the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA) of Venezuela. The magazine's Advisory Committee is made up of representatives from various national and international institutions.
II.2. Of the submission of articles
Language: Contributions may be submitted in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.
Originality: The works submitted for arbitration must be unpublished, therefore, a letter of faith will be presented where the author (s) state that it has not been simultaneously sent to another journal.
Gratuity: There are no charges for the management (reception, processing, and publication) of articles.
II.3. From the authors
Authorship: People who have made contributions in the formulation of the trial, experimental design, obtaining raw data, application of the statistical method, data analysis, interpretation of results, as well as writing the manuscript or bibliographic research, will be included as authors.
Responsibility for the contents: The ideas, opinions, and statements expressed by the authors are their responsibility and do not necessarily represent the point of view or commitment of the Journal.
Multiple referrals by the same author: If several documents are received from the same author, the journal will only publish a maximum of two articles per year, from the author in question.
Privacy: The names and email addresses entered in this magazine will be used exclusively for the purposes stated in it and will not be provided to third parties or for use for other purposes.
II.4. Of the evaluation process of the works received
Selection and approval of works: The received works will be evaluated initially by the Editorial Committee. Once this preliminary evaluation has been passed, they will be refereed by three specialists in the area of knowledge, through a double-blind peer review, where the authors and evaluators remain explicitly anonymous.
Selection of evaluators. The evaluators must be experts in the subject of the manuscript, recognized from the academic point of view, with a master's or doctorate. You must have research experience and have publications in scientific journals. For the evaluation process, the Journal has a database of specialized external peers.
Duration of the evaluation process: Once the manuscript has been assigned to peer review, the arbitration process will take a minimum of one month.
Stages of the evaluation process:
a) Preliminary review to verify the adjustment of the article to the thematic areas of the Journal, compliance with the indications indicated in the section "Instructions for the preparation and submission of contributions" and verification of the absence of plagiarism or self-plagiarism. The editorial committee reserves the right not to submit works that do not comply with the indications indicated by the Journal to arbitration. In this case the authors will be notified immediately.
b) Once the preliminary review has been passed, the article will be subjected to a double-blind peer-review process, involving three reviewers external to the Editorial Committee of the Journal.
c) The evaluations will be carried out and delivered by the reviewers in the format used by the Journal for this purpose. The recommendations of the arbitration process may be one of the following: i) Accept this submission, ii) Publishable with modifications, iii) Resend for review, iv) Submit to another publication, and v) Not publishable.
d) The item will be rejected when you get two negative recommendations. If you get two positive recommendations, the article can be published. The arbitration is an orientation to accept or reject the document and the Editorial Committee reserves the right to select the articles that meet the quality and relevance criteria established by the journal. In the event of dissatisfaction or complaint by the authors regarding the result of the evaluation, the resolution of the conflict will be left to the Editorial Committee.
e) If the referees' recommendations are subject to changes subject to resubmission, the review documents will be sent to the author within a maximum period of five business days, from the date of receipt of the last recommendation. The author will be responsible for making the corrections suggested by the evaluators, within a period of 30 days and for submitting the corrected version. After 30 days without receiving a response or request for an extension from the authors, the Editorial Committee will withdraw the work.
f) Once the corrected version has been received by the author, the evaluators will check that the corresponding modifications have been made. The manuscript can be returned to the author, as many times as necessary, in order to obtain an improved version.
II.5. The editing process
Post arbitration adjustments: Once the corrected version has been received, the Editorial Committee has the power to adjust the article to maintain the uniformity of the style of the journal.
Galley: After editing and style correction, the authors will receive the galley proof, which must be carefully reviewed and returned to the editor within a maximum period of one week. Once the editing of the manuscript is finished, its publication is approved by the Editorial Committee.
II.6. About copyright
Licenses and intellectual property rights: The Journal and all its contents are published under the “Creative Commons” 4.0 (CC) license, which states: “Attribution –Non-derivative works– Non-commercial: The materials created by you can be distributed, copied and exhibited by third parties as long as the corresponding credit is attributed to the author. No profit allowed. Derivative works are not allowed. "
II.7. Of accessibility and reproducibility
Open access: The journal provides immediate access to published content, in order to contribute to the global exchange of knowledge. All texts are free to read immediately after publication.
Downloads and distribution: The journal allows readers to download, store, copy and distribute the final approved and published version (post-printing) of the articles for free, under the premise that it is carried out without commercial purposes, without the intention of obtaining derivative works. and that the source and author (s) are appropriately mentioned.
Post-publication dissemination: The journal allows authors to disseminate the article after publication, in repositories, and on websites.
II.8. On the digital identification and preservation of published articles
DOI: A DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is assigned to each article, which allows it to be retrieved even from servers other than the one on your website.
Archive: For the unalterable permanence and overtime of all published articles, the Journal uses the open access repository ZENODO, sponsored by the European OpenAIRE program and operated by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN).
